RMR AUDITIONS! Rhodes Music Radio is looking for talented, enthusiastic and hard-working Grahamstown individuals to become the next generation of Presenters and News Readers. Applying gives you a chance of becoming part of an exciting, diverse and well-equipped radio station located at the heart of the Rhodes University campus. RMR has been a launch pad for the careers of dozens of South African media celebrities like Rob Vember (5fm), Unathi Msengana (Metro Fm), Siki Mgabadeli (SA Fm), Mlu Dlukuluu (Metro Fm) and Nicole Fox (former 5fm Dj). “This is an opportunity for the station to get in touch with fresh new talent and also create an opportunity for young Grahamstown individuals to learn about radio broadcasting" says Acting Station Manager, Masixole Mdingane. “We are looking for cool, outspoken and versatile individuals” says RMR Programmes Manager, Vivette Rittman. “Someone who has the talent and personality to captivate the imagination of our listeners”. Auditions will take place at the RMR Studios, Rhodes University Campus, on Saturday, 12 May. Entrants are advised to arrive early to register and to make sure they are available for call-backs over the whole weekend, if necessary. Entrants must be at least 18 years old and no older than 25 on the day of their auditions, and all contestants must present a valid identity document to enter. Multiple award music icons - Ludacris, Ne-Yo, Mi Casa and Shaggy to get PE pumping International superstars Ne-Yo, Shaggy, Ludacris and Protoje will join Shoelace and three-time SA Music Award winners Mi Casa for the first MBay Mega Fest at Port Elizabeth’s Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday, 2 June 2012. This spectacular line-up of South African and international music talent is set to position PE as a significant player on the country’s festival circuit, while providing a much-needed boost to the Eastern Cape economy. This all-day festival, starting at 10am, will feature non-stop entertainment across two stages. The South African acts on the bill include sensational soul house trio Mi Casa, Zakes Bantwini, Bucie, Eltonnick, Naak MusiQ. Also on the bill are talented Eastern Cape-based DJs Mtira, Kasta, Baba D, Cute,Spectrum and Master Jam. Gates to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium open at 10am on 2 June. RMR launches a new educational show Community Engagement is one of the three pillars of the critical pillars of the Rhodes university, infused with working alongside teaching and learning. In a bid to extend dialogue and action beyond confines of Rhodes University, RMR has launched a new show for Matriculants in conjunction with Rhodes University Community Engagement (RUCE) office. According to Acting Station Manager, Masixole Mdingane “RMR is a community radio station with an audience that is not limited to Rhodes University”. As such, “this collaboration sees RMR & RUCE extending their services and knowledge to connect with a greater community of Grahamstown” he added. L2 = Listen & Learn is aimed at senior High School students (Grade 10 – 12). The show would be aimed offering advice on subjects such as English Literature, Maths, Economics, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences and Life Skills.
